Mountain West Strings

Mountain West String Academy provides a string program in elementary schools in Cache County School District. In 2003, donations from Campbell Scientific, Maple Farms Foundation, Southwest Strings, and Marie Eccles Caine Foundation made it possible for Mountain West String Academy to purchase string instruments for students to rent for the minimal cost of $55 for the school year. This made it possible for the Cache County School District to offer funding for the instructors for string teaching in all elementary schools at an hourly wage. However, MWSA is still obligated to seek funding to purchase needed instruments, instrument maintenance and care, printing and mailing, professional fees, equipment, music and curriculum, activities and teachers’ fuel compensations.

MWSA does not have a regularly paid secretary, book-keeper, accountant and so on. All of these extra business related areas are taken care of by our dedicated parent board on a volunteer basis or fund-raising basis. Today, thanks largely to dedicated parent volunteers and the very supportive school district and inspired donors, MWSA is lucky enough to offer this great program to children from Lewiston to Avon at all Cache County School District elementary schools.

So you can see that MWSA needs your help! We actively seek individuals to help on a volunteer basis in activities that vary so much in abilities, that anyone can do something and help us make sure this great program remains in our elementary schools.

We need board members who are willing to meet on a monthly basis. We also need committee members to help in the following areas:

  • Fundraising
  • Public Relations and Graphic Design
  • Awards and Appreciation
  • Activities and Staging

Please consider helping. We would love to have one person from each school help in one of each of the categories listed above.

We know that music helps children build both basic and advanced thinking skills. It teaches children how to think critically, solve problems, interpret and understand complex symbols, and expands their ability to imagine and innovate.

Through music, students:

  • Learn to practice and be dedicated to something important
  • Learn to work together with others as a team
  • Learn to understand the language of music
  • Learn to appreciate music and its many different styles
  • Develop skills that will help them in math, science, history, and English.
  • Become more confident

HELP US MAKE SURE THAT MWSA STICKS AROUND FOR MANY YEARS TO COME TO BENEFIT NOT ONLY OUR OWN CHILDREN NOW BUT CHILDREN IN THE FUTURE. IT IS SUCH A VALUABLE FORM OF THEIR EDUCATION!
